Keyboard Sample Trigger

A Keyboard Sample Trigger refers to the mechanism, software, or hardware feature that allows you to play recorded audio snippets (samples) instantly by pressing a key on a musical MIDI keyboard or a computer QWERTY keyboard. This concept bridges live performance with music production, allowing users to play anything from sound effects and vocal chops to complex acoustic instruments. Core Trigger Modes

When mapping a sample to a keyboard key, you can configure exactly how the audio responds to your physical touch:

One-Shot (Basic): Pressing the key triggers the entire sample from start to finish. Releasing the key will not stop the audio.

Gate / Press: The sample plays only as long as you hold the key down. Releasing the key immediately cuts off or fades out the sound.

Toggle / Endless: Pressing the key starts the sample on a continuous loop. Pressing the same key a second time stops the playback.

Retrigger: Pressing the key while the sample is already playing will instantly cut off the current playback and restart the sample from the beginning.

Release Trigger: The sample does not play when you press the key down; instead, it is triggered the exact moment you let go of the key (commonly used for realistic piano key-release sounds). Hardware vs. Software Execution 1. Software Samplers (Virtual Instruments)

Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) use dedicated plugins to turn your keyboard into a sampler.
